A look into the life of...Jessie J

Jessica Ellen Cornish....

Cornish is from Essex, and acted on stage as an eleven year old in Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End production of Whistle Down the Wind. She attended Mayfield High School - a humanities and arts specialist school. At the age of 16 she began studying at the BRIT School, and joined a girl group at the age of 17. She was signed to Gut Records, recording an album for the label, but Gut Records went bankrupt before releasing any of her music. After suffering heart trouble and a minor stroke at the age of 18 Cornish found success as a songwriter, gaining a Sony ATV publishing contract. She co-wrote the Miley Cyrus hit "Party in the USA" with producer Doctor Luke, and Claude Kelly, as well as writing for Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown (with whom she toured Europe), Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera. She has been hailed by Timberlake as "the best singer in the world right now".
Jessie J released her single "Do It Like a Dude" in the UK on 21 November 2010; where it was positively received by BBC Radio 1, who added it to their B Playlist. She claimed that she had written the song for Rihanna but decided to release it herself. The single debuted at number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. A track entitled "Price Tag" was promoted by Jessie on Later Live with Jools Holland on 9 November. The song is scheduled to be released as the albums second single featuring US rapper B.o.B in March 2011, with the video having already been filmed. Her debut album, Who You Are, is due to be released in 2011.
On 6 December 2010, the BBC announced that Jessie J had been nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll.
